The SCWC hosts a Cultural Awareness Seminar with Keith Brandy, Cultural Awareness Facilitator
Nov 7, 2015
09:30:am
University of Wollongong main campus, Building 67, Room 101
“For Indigenous people, cultural integrity in reproductions of Indigenous cultural material is important” (Anita Heiss)
Writers who work in Law, Humanities and the Creative Arts are sometimes faced with intricacies surrounding copyright, communal ownership, and cultural heritage when writing about Indigenous issues. This Cultural Awareness seminar is designed to help writers of fiction and non-fiction avoid the unintentional appropriation of Aboriginal cultures in their writing:
- If your research (Law, Humanities, Creative Arts) deals with Indigenous issues
- If your art work draws on Aboriginal stories, material, cultural content, histories
- If your fictional characters are set within Aboriginal contexts
- If your work uses images, songs, stories or other forms whose reproduction would fall under Indigenous customary law
Tickets need to be purchased in advance and are $40 waged, $20 unwaged or $10 for SCWC members and UOW students. Book your place or find out more about this event by contacting us.
