2019 International Women's Day: Power Voice for Balance
For the sixth year in a row, the South Coast Writers Centre will be holding an event for International Women’s Day at Wollongong Art Gallery: Power Voice for Balance.
The event will feature Anne-Louise Rentell, Aunty Barbara Nicholson and Ali Jane Smith sharing their experiences of working on The Siren Project, a theatrical and musical re-imagining of women’s stories from Port Kembla, created by The Society of Histrionic Happenings. Having access to the stories of women is one way we bring balance into our understanding of community and culture.
“The future is exciting. Let's build a gender-balanced world. Everyone has a part to play - all the time, everywhere. From grassroots activism to worldwide action, we are entering an exciting period of history where the world expects balance. We notice its absence and celebrate its presence. Balance drives a better working world. Let's all help create a #BalanceforBetter.” —www.internationalwomensday.com
Following the speakers, the SCWC will announce of the winners of the concurrent writing competition under the theme ‘Balance’, who will read their winning pieces. The competition is currently open until the 1st of March, with categories in prose up to 1000 words and poetry 40 lines. Submission guidelines can be found here.
Following the speakers and performances, refreshments will be provided, and there will be an opportunity for hearty mingling.
