The South Coast Writers Centre is excited to offer a new Young Writers Group — for writers aged 11-14 — run by author and creative writing mentor, Helena Fox.
Helena Fox has been mentoring young writers in the Wollongong area for over ten years. Helena is also the facilitator of the Young Writers Program at the South Coast Writers Centre, based at the University of Wollongong. Her YA novel How It Feels To Float was recently released in Australia and the US.
The Centre currently has one workshop group for young writers aged 14-20, but is excited to offer a new writing group for writers aged 11-14. These weekly workshops will be for keen young writers who would like to develop their creative writing skills in a friendly and supportive group environment.
The Young Writers Group will explore the craft of story building—from creating unique characters, settings, and plots, to exploring genre and finding your writing ‘voice’. The group will also look at other writing forms such as poetry and playwriting. The young writers will write together at each workshop and have the opportunity every week to share their work.
The intention of the Young Writers Group is to be both a class and a community. Helena’s focus as a writing mentor is to get young people excited to write and express themselves, to experiment and play with words, and to help them build their writing skills. Her workshops are a relaxed, supportive, and safe space where you get to grow as a writer, talk about books and language and life, all while hanging out with other word lovers.
Numbers in this group will be limited. If you would like to join the YWG please contact the South Coast Writers Centre at firstname.lastname@example.org, or email@example.com.
