Little Mountain Readings and Poetry Workshop
By Martin Veres
Little Mountain Readings is on again on Saturday, 2 December! That's right. The Southern Highlands' annual poetry reading event is taking place once again this year at Sturt Cottage in Mittagong from 5.00 – 8.00pm. So put on your best poetry-listening hat and get ready to appreciate the region's finest poets disperse some verse.
Enjoy a glass of wine (or two), canapes, and live music as Little Mountain Readings kicks off the summer in poetical style. Hear the likes of acclaimed Australian poets Michele Seminara and Philip Hall, as well as poets and students from the region. The evening will be MC'd be Rhiannon Hall.
After the readings, there will also be an open mic session, with prizes up for grabs, including the much coveted Little Mountain Readings' "Lead Logie" pencil, so bring along your own poetry and get in on the fun. After all, if the Little Mountain Readings won't come to you, then you must go the Little Mountain Readings.
Tickets are $35 or $25 for members of Sturt and SCWC.
Poems Out of the Drawer Workshop
In the morning, there will also be a poetry writing workshop, facilitated by Michele Seminara, and running from 10.00am – 2.00pm. Participants can bring up to three poems that they've not yet submitted or shared, and together you'll have the opportunity to polish, buff, shine, and improve them until they're roadworthy.
Michele Seminara is both a poet as well as the managing editor of Verity La, so she knows a thing or two about what makes a piece of poetry stand out, and will be able to help you sculpt your work until not only you are happy with it, but (hopefully) a publisher is happy with it too. The workshop will wrap up with a performance of your work (if you're feeling up to it; no pressure) as well as an exchange of feedback from participants.
Workshop tickets are $85, or $65 for Sturt or SCWC members, and $35 for under 18s.
Additionally, workshop participants get Free Entry to the afternoon's Little Mountain Readings.
You can book your tickets be contacting either the South Coast Writers Centre, or Sturt.
