November at SCWC

by Martin Veres

And so the year rolls onward to Pre-Christmas, or November, as some people like to call it. But just because the year is winding down doesn't mean we don’t have any events on for you! Between Word Salad, Out and About, and the Wollongong Writers Festival, we've got enough to keep your literary sensibilities satisfied until Christmas rolls around.

1 November

6.00 – 8.30pm, Jane's Wollongong

Facilitated by Garry McDougall

Word Salad's classic starter package of poetry, performance and open mic. This month's theme is Yes: Acceptance, Affirmation and the Familiar. If that sounds strange and unusual to you, maybe you could check it out and broaden your horizons, eh?

Word Salad Poetry with Bite

6.00 – 8.30pm, Jane's Wollongong

It's the second Wednesday of the month, so you know what that means: time to bite down on some poetry. Or I suppose, if it's poetry with bite, then the poetry might be biting down on you. The important part is that there are teeth involved. This week's focus will be on 20th Century American poet, Mary Oliver.

11 November

Out and About with Jeff Apter

1.00 – 4.00pm, Creative Container, MacCabe Park

If you missed your chance to catch Jeff at the Wollongong Art Gallery, or you just want to see him again, come down to MacCabe Park for Viva La Gong, and check out Jeff's Out and About session.

15 November

Word Salad Big Book Club

6.00 – 8.30pm, Jane's Wollongong

And on the third Wednesday of the month, thou shalt hold a Big Book Club, and it'll be great. Hope you haven't been slacking off on your reading, because this week's book is Josephine Wilson's 2017 Miles Franklin winner, Extinctions.

16 November
