SCWC Member: Carmel Liertz

by Carmel Liertz

Who is Carmel Liertz?

I am a psychologically-based person with a combined extrovert/introvert personality, which quite suits my multi-faceted life as Presenter, Music Performer, Teacher, Confidence Coach, Training Innovator, Performance Researcher and Author – these areas all cross-fertilising each other and assisting people in performance and presentation.

An important part of me is the concerned Australian – concerned about what we appear to be losing – copyright, Australian values, our precious landscape, compassion for those less fortunate, democracy, mindfulness  ... I think all creative artists have a significant role to play as the conscience of society.

1) What book would you recommend?

Bruce H. Lipton, The Biology of Belief: Unleashing the Power of Consciousness, Matter & Miracles, 1st Hay House edition, 2008.

2) What are you currently working on?

I have just mapped out the chapter headings for a training book on ‘Confident Presentation’, which will use my holistic approach, and also bust the many myths about presenting with confidence.

As well I am completing a Kiama Council Cultural Arts Grant for my ‘Ignite’ Project – directing an 8 Week Program for various types of creative people to develop confidence in presentation, to be demonstrated with their diverse presentations and Q and A session.

3) What is your workspace like?

This is usually a mess of many layers, representing projects and bills.

4) Which book character are you most like?

Since a young girl, I have identified with Jo from Little Women and sequels by Louisa May Alcott. (At one time I was even married to the German Professor!) Instead of going on to have a boys' school though as Jo did, I created and direct a Training Centre for Performance and Presentation in Kiama Downs.
