Keep the Creative Arts Alive and Donate to Coastlines

by Yvette Gilfillan

What’s your story?

Why do you write?

What do you need to write BETTER?

We have a distinct literary culture here on the South Coast that no-one else can claim. As a purpose-driven organisation located here in Wollongong, we are committed to facilitating professional development opportunities for writers in the Illawarra, South Coast and Southern Highlands.

So that sounds cool—but what does that mean for YOU?

If you’re an emerging or established author, or someone who loves writing but has limited resources to pursue writing as a passion, we offer up to 150 FREE or inexpensive events and workshops every year. You might be time-poor, money-poor or wishing you lived closer to Sydney—and that’s why we offer such a huge variety of events in locations that are convenient for you.

Since opening our doors in 2012, we’ve trained countless aspiring authors in all types of genres, including romance writing, comedy, scriptwriting, microfiction and poetry. We bring acclaimed authors to your local area to speak about their process, and help you network with talented agents, industry professionals and fellow writers.

This year, the team at SCWC have been working hard on Coastlines, our upcoming inaugural magazine. Because we care about your personal and professional development, and about making literature accessible for everyone, it will be—you guessed it—free.

We’ll be showcasing what the Centre does throughout the year, with a range of in-house interviews, book reviews of SCWC authors, and prose and poetry from our writing groups.

Copies of Coastlines will be available at our events throughout the year, and we’ll also sneakily leave them on trains, in cinemas, libraries, newsagents, bookstores and cafés. You will also be able to request a copy to be delivered to your doorstep—provided postage costs are covered.

If all goes well this year, we want to open up submissions to the public—and that means we want YOU! It’ll be your chance to get published in a real magazine, so let’s make this first release a hit.

To make this incredible resource a reality, a donation to cover our printing costs will go a long way. We stand up for nurturing local talent, including seniors, young writers, and Indigenous creatives—so if you stand with us, click the button to donate! Help us build a strong literary community on the South Coast.
